Infrared Scanning Standard Task Force
The thermal imaging technology has advanced significantly in the past
few years and the price of equipment has grown more affordable. The
technology offers the promise of a way to measure the EPA ENERGY STAR
Homes Thermal Bypass Checklist and the quality of the installation of
the insulation after the dry wall has been installed.
To pave the way to achieving this potential, RESNET is considering
adopting a standard for conducting an infrared scanning standard. A
draft standard is currently be developed by a RESNET standard drafting
committee. The committee is basing its work on the experience of its
members and the United Kingdom’s standard for using the technology in
measuring the quality of insulation installation.
RESNET has formed a infrared standard task force. The task force will
be responsible for reviewing and commenting on the draft standard
developed by the drafting committee. The input from members of the task
force will be used by the RESNET Technical Committee and the RESNET
Board of Directors in its deliberations on adopting the standard. The
task force represents a rich diversity in the building performance
