RESNET

National Registry of Accredited
Tax Credit Compliance Software Tools

The following is a listing of tax credit compliance software programs accredited by RESNET.

The IRS released Announcement 2006-88 on October 29, 2006 announcing that either RESNET publications 06-001 or 05-001 may be used to determine whether a dwelling unit qualifies for the New Energy Efficient Homes Tax Credit. This announcement came as a result of differing interpretations of the legislation regarding the calculation of the energy use for the tax credit verification software tools. RESNET’s initial publication, 05-001, used the normalized loads method for calculating energy use. On June 1, 2006, RESNET adopted a subsequent publication, 06-001 which incorporated the modified normalized loads method. The IRS will now accept either method of calculation for the tax credit. RESNET certified software developers have been informed of this change and are creating a new version of the software. As new software versions are submitted to RESNET, they will be posted on the RESNET web site. Raters are free to use either the current or new version of the software.
